PID lab
A single-axis virtual drone with the same building blocks as Betaflight. Move P, D, feedforward and the filters and see instantly how it responds and how much noise reaches the motors.
What each value does
P
How hard the drone corrects the difference between what you ask for and what it does. Too little: mushy. Too much: it bounces and oscillates.
I
Corrects errors that persist: wind, unbalanced weight, a weaker motor. It keeps the drone holding its angle.
D
Brakes the movement before it gets there and prevents bounce-back. But it amplifies noise: too much D heats up the motors.
Feedforward
Reacts directly to stick movement, without waiting for an error. It makes the drone more agile, but too much causes overshoot.
Filters
They remove motor noise, but every filter adds delay. The lower they are, the cleaner but slower the response, with more bounce-back.
RPM filter
It knows how fast each motor is spinning and removes exactly that noise. It’s the filter that helps the most and adds the least delay.
To tune your real drone, follow the method in Tuning and Blackbox and analyse the logs in the FPV Assistant.
